WATA is excited to announce the launch of fare payments through the Transit app! WATA riders can now purchase their tickets directly in the Transit app by using the “Buy ticket” button at the bottom of the app, quickly and conveniently. Users can create a Transit account and enter their credit card information to purchase a ticket, and the full range of WATA tickets and passes are available.
Step 1: Download the Transit app. The app is free to download from the App Store or Google Play.
Step 2: Create your account. Open the Transit app and tap on the Settings icon in the top left of the screen. At the bottom of the page, select WATA from the available services tab. Follow the prompts to create an account.
Step 3: Adding funds. At the bottom of the settings page, select WATA and tap on Add funds. Follow the prompts to add funds to your account.
Step 4: Buying your ticket. At the bottom of your home screen, tap on Buy Ticket. Select the type of ticket and how many you require. Follow the prompts to pay.
Step 5: Using your ticket. Your purchased tickets can be found under the My Tickets section on the settings page. Choose the pass you want to use and tap Activate next to it. Make sure to only activate shortly before you board! To activate multiple passes, tap Activate for each one individually. When you scan your pass, you'll be able to switch between them.
Step 6: Get on board! Scan the activated ticket on the validators onboard our buses. When the light turns green on the validator, you’re all set! Enjoy your ride!
What types of tickets can I purchase via Mobile Ticketing?
You can purchase One-Ride, All-Day, 7-Day, and 30-Day passes.
How and when should I activate my Mobile Ticket?
Activate your ticket only when boarding the bus. Have your mobile ticket ready and activated to scan on the validator as you board or when requested by WATA staff. Avoid activating it before the bus arrives, as tickets are only valid for the duration of your trip. You can find your tickets in the Ticket Wallet on the main screen of the Transit app.
Do etickets expire?
Yes, mobile tickets expire 12 months after purchase.
What should I do if a WATA bus operator asks to inspect my mobile ticket?
Each ticket contains features and information, including a tri-color ticket, that WATA officials may inspect during the trip.
How do I use the bus’s ticket scanner?
Pull down to reveal the barcode on your mobile ticket, then scan it against the bus’s ticket scanner. A beep will confirm that your ticket is valid.
Do I need to create an account to use mobile tickets?
No, but creating an account in the Transit app is recommended to help you track your tickets and transfer them to a new device if needed.
Will my mobile ticket still work if I lose cell phone service while trying to use my ticket?
Yes, mobile tickets don’t require cell or WiFi service to display once activated. However, you do need connectivity to purchase a ticket, which must be done before boarding. If you lose cell phone service after activating and boarding the vehicle, you will be able to activate and display the ticket from the ticket wallet.
What happens if my smartphone becomes inoperable (e.g., dead battery) before showing my ticket?
You are responsible for ensuring your phone is in working order before boarding. If your phone is inoperable, you must use another payment method.
Can I activate more than one ticket on my phone if traveling with others?
Yes, for group travel, you can purchase and activate multiple tickets in your app, one at a time.
What happens if I lose my phone or get a new one?
If you’ve created a registered account, you can transfer any unused tickets to a new device. To do this, download the Transit app on your new device, log in, and follow the prompts to transfer your account. Note that accounts can only be transferred between devices three times in six months.
Are receipts available for mobile ticket purchases?
Yes, you will receive receipts via email for all mobile ticket purchases, and you can resend old receipts through the Ticket History section of the Transit app.
Are there any fees for using mobile ticketing?
The Transit app is free to download. However, data usage fees may apply, depending on your mobile service provider. WATA is not responsible for any data charges incurred while using the mobile ticketing app.
Is Transit app available on all devices?
The Transit app works on most iOS and Android devices with operating systems less than two years old. Older systems may not be supported.
Will the application store my credit card details?
You have the option to store your credit card details for future transactions.
How is my personal information protected?
The Transit app complies with Payment Card Industry (PCI-DSS) standards. All payment communications are encrypted via SSL, and sensitive data is securely encrypted, with continuous monitoring for security vulnerabilities.
